Reasoning about Action for Behavioral Animation of Intelligent Virtual Agents

چکیده
—Recent work in behavioral animation has taken impressive steps towards a virtual human. As for intelligent virtual agents, abbreviated " IVAs " , the behaviors displayed in virtual environments should be " reasoned ". It remains challenging, however, to endow virtual agents with cognitive ability to perform specific tasks. This paper addresses cognitive models and behavioral models for IVAs. For cognitive models, concurrent actions, complex actions, control structure, and corresponding semantics are added to FLUX software that is based on fluent calculus to create ConPFLUX software. It enables IVAs to reason about action in terms of given tasks in dynamic and incompletely known environments. For behavioral models, we develop a ConPFLUX-based animation description language FCADL. It is capable of conveniently and flexibly describing the animation of various complex behaviors of IVAs resulting from ConPFLUX.

A Framework for Reasoning about Animation Systems
In this paper, we consider the potential for reasoning about animations in the language of hybrid dynamical systems (i.e., systems with both continuous and discrete dynamics). We begin by directly applying hybrid systems theory to animation, using a general-purpose hybrid system specification tool to generate multi-agent animations; this application also illustrates that hybrid system models ca...
متن کاملAn Intelligent Believable Agent Environment
In this paper we present an intelligent believable agent development environment. This was achieved by connecting dMARS, an agent-oriented system, and Open Inventor, an animation system. We describe the design of this environment which involves a connecting layer and some plan templates for (i) managing the synchronisation between actions determined in the reasoning system, and their execution ...
متن کاملNew Goal Selection Scheme for Behavioral Animation of Intelligent Virtual Agents
One of the most challenging tasks in computer graphics and cyberworlds is the realistic animation of the behavior of virtual agents emulating human beings and evolving within virtual 3D worlds. In a previous paper, the authors presented a new, sophisticated behavioral system that allows the agents to take intelligent decisions by themselves [8]. A central issue of this process is the adequate c...
متن کاملDevelopment of a computational cognitive architecture for intelligent virtual character
A development of a computational cognitive architecture for the simulation of intelligent virtual characters is described in this paper. By specializing and adapting from an existing structure for a situated design agent, we propose three process models—reflexive, reactive and reflective—which derive behavioural models that underlie intelligent behaviours for these characters. Various combinati...
متن کاملBehavioral Animation of Virtual Agents
The animation of virtual agents has received great attention during the last two decades. This recent field, also known as Artificial Life, is based on the observation of natural systems. The core is to create a virtual environment inhabited by virtual agents that evolve in a life-like way. To this aim, several techniques emulating biological organisms and designed to manage different types of ...
